I opened Spine today to discover different images missing in all my spine projects.
I changed nothing in the different images folders, nor in the PSD files. I tried to restart my computer and the software.

Any Ideas what could have gone wrong?

Sorry, I can't check it out, now when I tried to open any of my projects I get an error:
"Sorry, an error occurred while reading the project file. This file has a ".sp" file extension. Please be sure to choose a ".spine" file."
Needless to say, I tried to open a ".spine" file.

Ehm, that is very strange. That dialog should show the last dot and everything after it as the file extension of the file you chose. Maybe you can email us your .spine file? contact@esotericsoftware.com We will keep it confidential. Having the images may help with that problem, but first being able to open the project is important!

Not the same issue but I ended up here because every one of my images was showing an orange 'missing' box. The images had been moved at some point, so the base images folder was now wrong. It took me forever to figure out how to fix it, so here it is:

To fix missing images (Spine 3.8), you must be in SETUP mode (click ANIMATE at the top left so it says SETUP), then in the Tree panel under Hierarchy, under your top object, at the very bottom look for an Images folder. It should appear under Skins and Animations but is hidden unless you're in SETUP mode (whyyyy). Click it, and in the Image Files panel below, change the Path to the root of where your images are located. Eg "./Images" or just "." for the project path.

Edit: yeah I definitely mean 3.cool smiley face, not 3.8 😃
