Hi guys.
Today i downloaded the trial version to see how it works. After 3 hours i finish a very basic animation and now i have some doubts about this software.
About the mechanics.
-In the animation menu, some times i wanted to delete what i did, but i didn't figure out how. So i selected all the keys in the main animation and deleted. There is no way to select by layer? for example, click on the rotate layer and press delete. Possible?
-Animating meshes was a pain, if i animate in the frame 20 and then i want to set the initial position in frame 0 as default, i had to move a vertex just to get the key, i didn't find the Key button for the mesh (similar for bones animation).
-Speed of the timeline, I'm used to animate in flash/unity/maya. I tried to animate the body with 120 frames and the hair of the character with 240 frames, so i was trying to make a new animation for the hair but i couldn't play both animation in the same time. I prefer to encapsulate animations in "containers" so i can have different speed for object that loops.
-Mesh creator, i created an orange line so i could animate my character structure faster, but i couldn't select the line (for example, 2 clicks and automatic select by ring or edge) i had to select one by one every time, also when i move to other frame i lost the selection.
-Everything need to have a bone or mesh? I want to animate a peace of the amor but i couldn't select it, i had to create the mesh and put a bone as a place holder. Is that normal?
- I couldn't find a way to lock some bones, or it was all visible or not.
About the Atlas
I have done this kind of animation before using maya lt and exporting to unity with very similar results. The workflow was also similar, Photoshop export all the layers in PNG then Using Sprite UV (Free software, sadly only PC) convert my png to Atlas and also export the Sprites in Collada OBJ (mesh) with very good results, after that i just need to put the bones in Maya and export to Unity. I couldn't test the Atlas maker in Trial mode, so my question is
- Can i update the atlas in any moment without breaking the animation, bones, uv position?
- Can i add more objects not related with the animation/skeleton to save space?
- In unity, what do i get? I saw some videos and i didn't get it. A prefab with all data was created in the tutorial i saw, no Rect Transform(to use in Canvas) or Mesh like Sprite UV? Can i choose to generate an Atlas and export also the mesh Mesh or RectTransform information? I ask this because its look like i will have to generate multiple atlas for every type of object.
About the Software and price
- I just saw that the version 3 was released, that means this software still have many year ahead, right?
- Where i work now Live2d is used in many unity projects we got, looks like is cheaper and more complete as software. What would be the big diferences between Live2d and Spine http://www.live2d.com/cubism2-1/en
Im really interested in the software, but i still have to sell it in my company and coworker, between live2d or maya lt + sprite uv.
I believe this is the easier and faster solution for people with no experience at all.
