rotoscoping in Spine?
I'd like to put a video in the background and align/trace over the frames to animate (rotoscope) a character
Is there any way to achieve this or something similar in Spine?
We don't have support for this at the moment. But you can do the following:
- Export your video as single image frames at a specific frame rate
- Create a bone in your hierarchy that's at the top of the draw order, so any attachments on it are drawn first
- Attach the images from your video to that bone
- In animation mode, make the image frame attachment visible for the current time stamp, which will make all others invisible
Don't forget to remove that bone and its attachments once you are done animating.
Cool
I'll give that a try.
Thanks very much!
Just found this thread and I have to say I'm disappointed. It's a very basic feature for animation software.
One simple way to enable rotoscoping without having to code a lot on your side would be to allow us to make the Spine window partially transparent like ZBrush let us do. Having control of the Spine window transparency level costs close to nothing to you but would give us a HUGE plus
You're right that it's very easy to make any window transparent. For example, on Windows you can do it with glass2k:

We could also build this into Spine. It's a little more complex as Spine supports multiple operating systems, but we'll look into it.
